Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."
--Thomas Jefferson: Declaration of Independence, 1776.
Dear Citizen's of Colbert County;
In sharing this communication with you, perhaps I can better acquaint you with myself and some of the issues I believe are important to the
citizens of Colbert County. I believe in the quotation from Thomas Jefferson stated above that Government really exists for the people, not the
people for government. Your elected officials should always remember that citizens deserve their voices to be heard.
The citizens of Colbert County depend upon their County Commission to meet certain community needs. (1) Adequate funding for Law Enforcement,
(2) Fire Protection, and (3) Maintenance and Improvements to our Infrastructure, are governmental obligations which must be met. Citizens should
demand that elected Commissioners be "good stewards" of their tax monies; expect a complete accounting and anticipate "return on investment"
for every tax dollar spent.
Our County Commission must be committed to Economic Development. The Shoals area as a whole has suffered from the downsizing and closure of
a number of our major industries. The creation of new jobs, through recruitment of major industry and finding creative ways to support local
small businesses must be made a priority.
I believe that good government is transparent government, which will be responsive to the needs of the people of Colbert County. By working
together, we can better assure our community will remain a great place to live and raise our families.
